Pecos and Rowe lie at the base of the Sangre de Cristo mountains and are a short drive from downtown Santa Fe. These small towns have long histories dating back to the Pecos tribe that occupied the area before Spanish settlers took over and erected the now famous mission at the center of the Pecos National Historical Park. As the trading destination that connected the Plains tribes with Pueblo cultures, Pecos and Rowe have a rich and difficult history. Today Pecos is the gateway to fishing, hunting, camping, and hiking in the surrounding Pecos Wilderness.
