Barker Realty has been part of the Santa Fe community for over 50 years. We’re a family-owned company with Santa Fe roots that go back to 1879. That’s when David Barker’s great-grandfather, N.B. Laughlin, walked into town. And we mean that literally. Laughlin was traveling on horseback from Dallas to Denver when he ran out of cash and sold his horse in the small mining town of Cerillos. After making his way to Santa Fe on foot, Laughlin settled here, established a law practice, and eventually was appointed to the New Mexico Territory Supreme Court.

Barker Realty was founded in 1965 by David’s father, Laughlin Barker, a World War II Navy veteran. David and his wife, Lisa, bought the business in 1985. Our history, our philosophy, and our love for Santa Fe sets the tone for our culture. Since the 1870s, the Barker Family has been recognized as a leading member of the Santa Fe community and is known locally as one of its greatest philanthropic supporters. We are proud of the history and culture woven into the core of Santa Fe and have remained steadfast ambassadors through our passion in supporting and bettering our community with decades of advocacy for those in need.

Our philosophy is simple: quality over quantity. Associate Brokers who join Barker Realty outperform their counterparts in the market in both number of transactions per broker as well as days on market for listings sold. How do they get there? New brokers participate in varying levels of mentorship. For many new brokers, it’s important to work with either an experienced broker or by joining our formal Mentorship Program that includes direct access to qualifying brokers and business development training. Four out of five new licensees drop out of real estate within two years; we have reversed those numbers.

Through social media and other online marketing, print advertising, radio and direct mail, the Barker Realty platform is highly effective and stands out from our competition. Giving back to the Santa Fe community has been a defining characteristic of Barker Realty from the beginning. It’s both a Barker family tradition and a company tradition to support Santa Fe and New Mexico nonprofits that nurture, strengthen, and enrich our community. Our philanthropic contributions support such charities and organizations as the Santa Fe Farmers Market, the Esperanza Shelter, The Horse Shelter, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, the Cancer Foundation for New Mexico, the Lensic Performing Arts Center, and the Santa Fe Opera.

Our team of associate brokers have been carefully curated with these qualities in mind. Due to the caliber of brokers and the marketing and technology platforms supporting them, our brokers on average produce higher sales, have the lowest average days on market to sell your home, and offer a combined 900 years of experience. Even our newer brokers go through extensive training and mentoring to ensure the highest level of service for our clients.

Continual education and real estate training
For experienced brokers, it comes down to focusing on activities that help build your business. Our staff is trained to help relieve the cumbersome burdens of administrative and marketing tasks so you can focus on the important tasks. Our Transaction Coordinator program offloads many of the administrative activities associated with listings and contracts, ensuring that deadlines are met and signatures are secured. Our goal is to maximize your productivity without the expense of quality of life.

The many great opportunities in real estate are not without their pitfalls, which is why we focus heavily on continuing education. Our brokers and staff are exposed to a variety of topics from contractual techniques, to home structural and mechanical issues, to understanding market metrics. We feel strongly that a professional broker is constantly learning. Our team of qualifying brokers are readily available to answer any questions our associate brokers may have and guide them through challenging negotiations.
