I’m Gretchen Walther. I know from experience that Santa Fe is a magical place to visit. It’s an even better place to live. I also know that real estate is a powerful thing. Where you own property defines your entire life, even if you’re only spending part of your time there.
I’m a new Realtor, but a long-time Santa Fe fan. I began to visit Santa Fe as a young girl when my dad moved here and opened a law practice in 1983. Northern New Mexico captured my heart and I spent my childhood exploring Santa Fe’s historic architecture, Native American culture and art, and those amazing verdant forests of the Sangre de Cristos.
I was an attorney for twenty-five years, helping my clients navigate the treacherous waters of divorce and family law. Right after law school, I followed my heart to New Mexico and combined forces with my father. For years we ran a successful law firm in both Santa Fe and Albuquerque.
I recently decided to pursue a career in real estate, leaving the law practice so that I could transition to helping people realize their dreams in a less contentious arena. After several personal real estate investment experiences along with everything I learned with my divorce clients buying and selling properties, this seemed like a logical and fulfilling way to spend this season of my life.
I understand the pressure and stress as well as the financial aspects of buying and selling real estate. I also have a keen skill set when it comes to contracts and negotiating on your behalf.
I also know the joy that comes with finding the perfect Santa Fe dream home. And if you’re selling rather than buying, I know that paying attention to every single detail in a transaction is going to streamline the process and get more money in your pocket.
My passion? Connecting with my clients, negotiating win/win deals (ask me about collaborative law, where even in divorces I created win/win deals), creatively solving problems, and helping you fulfill whatever Santa Fe property dreams you might have.
Of course, I’m not all work and no play. New Mexico offers an array of outdoor activities and when I’m not in the office or showing homes, I’ll be skiing, hiking, or paddleboarding with my partner Mary Guzman and our lovable pooches, Bruno Mars and Gus. I’m also a piano player, an avid reader, a novice historian, and I’m learning to write fiction.
What else can I tell you? Mine and Mary’s decision to combine forces was a no brainer for both of us. With Mary’s fifteen years of real estate experience and my decades of legal and business experience, we knew we’d be creating a powerful and dynamic team able to meet your real estate needs. We’re both well-connected in the community and we love where we live. Tell us your goals and we’ll do everything possible to help you achieve them.
I’ve lived all over the world. I was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I spent two years of college abroad in Switzerland and finished my undergraduate education at New York University. I then remained in New York for law school.
After traveling the world and living on the East Coast, I can truly say that New Mexico holds my heart. I look forward to introducing you to life here!
