Broker Spotlight: Laura Lichtenstein

Broker Spotlight / Barker Realty

Broker Spotlight / HOME August 2019 article“I simply can’t imagine living anywhere else!”

The allure of Santa Fe is timeless. How often do we hear, “I came for a brief visit and decided this would be my home?” Laura felt the same draw towards a life in Santa Fe. “I vacationed one winter to ski. As soon as I graduated from college, I moved to Santa Fe and never left. I simply can’t imagine living anywhere else!”

Laura enjoyed an idyllic childhood in Bethesda, Maryland in a tight community where all the moms knew each other, the kids were out playing until dark every evening, and block parties were the norm. “My parents taught me the importance of having a voice and the courage to speak out. To not blindly follow others, but have your own opinion and the knowledge to back it up, no matter the issue. In the 60s and 70s we marched on Washington for peace and civil rights. Although I was very young at the time, I was in attendance when Martin Luther King gave his famous ‘I Have a Dream’ speech on the Washington Mall. It’s been important to me to pass these values along to my daughter, and she’s certainly grown up to be someone to respect.”

Laura graduated with a Bachelors degree from Oberlin College, moved to Santa Fe in 1980, and obtained her Masters degree from UNM. “I worked in the design industry for eight years before realizing it wasn’t as rewarding to me as I needed. I enjoy working with people directly and found I was spending most of my time interacting with the computer. For this reason, I was particularly drawn to a career in real estate sales.” Laura finds a great deal of gratification in the problem solving aspect of the industry. “Approaching a problem, examining all the possible angles and resolutions, and working with all the parties towards the best possible outcome is very rewarding.”

The support she receives from Barker Realty allows her to offer her clients the highest level of service. “Honestly, I could not do this without them! Their knowledge and willingness to help frees up my time and energy to focus on my clients. Then there’s David Barker, the absolute best Qualifying Broker around. He’s been in Santa Fe forever and knows this town, and the local real estate market, like the back of his hand. He is smart, available and kind.”

Laura is a proud mom, with good reason. “She’s the light of my life and the best part of me!” Anna was born and raised in Santa Fe and went off to Johns Hopkins where she earned her Bachelors degree in physics, and is currently working on her Masters. “I’m just the proudest mom ever! This summer she’s launching a ‘rocket thing’ from White Sands. How cool is that? It has a camera and will be launched out of the atmosphere, hang out for six minutes taking photos, then return to earth. I’m very excited!”

In addition to a deep passion for reading, Laura is an outdoor enthusiast with a particular interest in hiking, skiing, snowshoeing and kayaking. She’s also recently taken up horseback riding.
